15 Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brot...her Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
17 Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

2 Peter 3 is refering here to THE DAY OF THE LORD. The reader is reminded that he is to stimulate himself to wholesome thinking. To call to mind all the words that have been spoken in the past by GOD's Holy prophets and by the commands given to us from our Lord and Saviour through the apostels.
We need to understand that people will not take the warnings serious. Their argument are that since the time of creation everything goes on as it has. But they deliberately forget that the heavens and the earth existed and were formed out of mere water. It was GOD HIMSELF who brought all things into being THROUGH HIS SPOKEN WORD, it is this same WORD that is reserving the heavens and earth for a day of judgment and destruction through fire to punish ungodly men.
Therefore we are warned and told what kind of people we ought to be. We are warned to live HOLY lives set apart for GOD. To have godly lives - through word, deed and thought. We are not to compromise with the world. We are to hate sin at all cost and flee from it. We are to live our lives unto HIM who has saved us through HIS DEATH on the cross - Justifying us that we no longer fall under the condemnation. We have been set free from the power of sin which once enslaved us. We are to live our life looking forward to a new heaven and new earth - THE BIBLE CALLS IT = THE HOME OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
So what is going to happen to this old world - HEED THE WARNING!!! The day of the Lord is going to come suddenly - like a thief. Suddenly the heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. That day the elements will melt in the heat - but for those who are in a right standing relationship with GOD - knowing that their sins are forgiven and living a holy godly lives can look forward to the promise of THE HOME OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Therefore we are to put every effort into it - TO BE FOUND spotless - With robes of RIGHTEOUSNESS and to be found blameless - with nothing against our name for which after hearing the truth have once again fallen into sin. God's patience with man means that it is GRACE time wanting men to REPENT, TURN from their sins and be SAVED. Paul has warned, his letters contin matters which are hard for the aragont and ignorant men who are unstable - who distort the scriptures to their own destruction. Therefore we are told GUARD what you already know - so that you will not be carried off by error and TAKE NOTE - FALL FROM YOUR SECURE POSITION IN CHRIST JESUS - what secure postion is that - You have now exchanged the truth for a lie and therefore believe the LIE than GOD's word. Friends those of us who think we stand and are so arragont LET US BEWARE LESS ME FALL FROM OUR SECURE POSITIONS and lets RETURN TO GOD's WORD and stop following after men for our SALVATION - for these men are weak themselves and therefore lead many to destruction. GUARD what you first HEARD that you may be found living HOLY GODLY LIVES UNTO HIM. HEED THE WARNING!!!!
